Can't Turn Back The Hands Of Time

Although I like a bit of sunshine on my skin when I’m on the coast, if I’m honest I also enjoy a bit of ‘weather’ on days when it could rain or even chuck it down. These gloomly overcast days on the coast of Northumberland have a certain power, the sort of days that take the imagination back to times when sailing ships could be wrecked on the islands, reefs, headlands and bays of this low lying landscape. In this picture, based on sketches made at Newton Point at the north end of Embleton Bay, you can see waves breaking on the reefs of Low Newton and beyond the grey wedge of Dunstanburgh headland at the south end of the bay with its 13th century castle ruins. There is a sense of endless erosion here, the one way clock of entropy.
