Professor Lemke dreams of the penguins.
Professor Lemke, the senior scientist on board and an IPPC lead author on the atmosphere, remembers the Emperor Penguins he met in the Antarctic on earlier missions with the Polarstern. A ‘super’ moon gleams from behind a cloud in the English Channel and various plankton live out their oceanic lives drifting invisibly on the ocean currents as we pass through the Straits of Dover and out to the Western Approaches.
