Impressing Wild Animals (Thunberg), Spring
Based on sketches made in various ancient woodlands in County Durham. There are three animals hidden in plain sight. Oak buds are just bursting out and the ferns are beginning to uncurl. Blue bells are emerging. A burn meanders through the space.
In 2023 this painting was exhibited at Hartlepool Art Gallery in a major exhibition supported by Natural England showing my paintings and drawings of ancient woodlands of northeast England over the past 30 years including many in Natural England’s collection.

About the artist
I am a painter of northern landscapes and of the sea. I'm an established artist in the north of England but I'm also known more widely with for example my TV participation in the SKY Portrait Artist of the Year competition.
