“This work expresses a complex juxtaposition of visual elements and textures. The central image features a dramatically outlined eye, evoking mysterious depth and a myriad of subtle emotions. The originality of this piece lies in its ability to capture the essence of a look while providing a fragmented but unified visual experience. It encourages the viewer to explore beyond the visible surface, discovering the narrative layers hidden between the folds and tears. It is an invitation to contemplation and personal interpretation, where each observer can find their own meaning in the captivating gaze that seems to follow the viewer.”

The basis of ‘Les Regards 2’ is a ‘collage brut’, or raw collage, representing Ingrid Bergman’s torso in a pensive expression (bottom) and Nathalie Nattier’s gaze (top). The detail of the portrait of Nathalie Nattier is taken from ‘Films pour Tous’, 1946 for the film ‘Les Portes de la Nuit’.  Torn, aged and worn paper adds to the nostalgic look of the portraits. This paper comes from French magazines “Illustration” dating from 1914-1917.

Les Regards 2 was first showed at the solo art show Portraits at the Galerie Ravaisou in Bandol, France in 2023.

Les Regards 2 is a mixed media composition on canvas.
Acrylic paint, transfer collage , oil paint.
The artwork is signed, varnished and delivered with a certificate of authenticity.
Box framing is optional.
