[Description] => This painting was exhibited at the Society of Botanical Artists,'In Pursuit of Plants' exhibition in London, held at Westminster Central Hall.
Ness Botanic Gardens on the Wirral was were Sarah found this composition of leaves and raindrops. Sarah has shown two different coloured leaves, but the leaves can vary from peach and yellow to scarlet in colour. The flowers are numerous and produce large inflorescences. When viewed on masse they have a wispy 'smoke-like' appearance, which accounts for their common name.
An orange dye can be rendered from the stems and roots, and the bark and leaves are a source of tannins. Cotinus coggygria is a common cultivation. It is native to Asia and south-eastern Europe. It occurs naturally in areas with rocky poor soil.
This painting is professionally mounted and framed by Framework (Wirral) Ltd. Please note frame sizes are approximate. Image size 29x20cm.
