Chalet near la Clusaz, Haute Savoie
I painted this whilst teaching art in the Haute Savoie region for a company called Art Chalet. This was the view from their chalet. I just loved the contrast between the dark interior with the plush leather sofa and the misty mountains on the other side of the valley. Like still life composition, interiors allow one to explore interesting compositions. I adore the work of artists like Patrick Caulfield with his cosy interiors and clever use of photorealism mixed up with pop-art cubism. Although mine is not avant-garde in that way I am attracted to certain kinds of modern interior scene.
