Pas de Deux 1

Pas de Deux 1
2026
This work blends photography and collage to create an intriguing and conceptual composition. Dominated by the juxtaposition of two bodily fragments, it presents a fragmented female silhouette, seemingly suspended in a timeless space. Above, a detail from a photograph by Charles Stewart, taken from his “Harlem Nudes” reportage—the bare, anonymous torso of a Black dancer—contrasts with the image below: a 1970s mannequin draped in a vibrant reddish-orange, introducing a dynamic dimension. The fluid black lines emanating from the suspended hand evoke a certain fragility, in contrast to the rigorous geometric composition. The deliberate asymmetry of the posture, where the outstretched arm and exposed foot create a fascinating interplay between stability and imbalance, immediately captures the viewer’s attention. This composition invites reflection on the duality between the visible and the invisible, between freedom and constraint. She thus creates a visual and emotional tension that invites the viewer to re-evaluate their perception of harmony and imbalance in women’s lives as well as in visual art.
