Pas de Deux

From the 49.6% collection.
In this work, Marian Williams presents a bold juxtaposition of photographic fragments and pastel hues. The piece is based on her collage ‘Coloured Girls 13,’ which incorporates details from Charles ‘Chuck’ Stewart’s ‘Harlem Nudes’ photo essay. Soft, blurred lines add to the ambiguity, reinforcing the impression of movement frozen in time. Here, the artist explores the theme of female nudity and vulnerability through a minimalist and poetic aesthetic, while simultaneously questioning the viewer’s perception of intimacy. It is a work that not only captivates the eye but also engages the mind in a reflection on the image of women and the fragmentation of perception.
