This work fuses tradition and surrealism. In the background, a classical portrait of a woman in a blue satin gown with intricate lace details evokes 18th-century elegance. However, the artist subverts expectations by replacing the face with a vibrant peacock feather, creating a striking contrast between familiarity and uncanny. The choice of feather symbolises beauty, vanity, and transformation. The pale pink background accentuates the figure’s central presence while adding an enigmatic softness. The blend of classical and contemporary styles and elements gives the work an undeniable visual and conceptual force, making it both captivating and unsettling.

Peacock on Pink was part of the ‘Étrange’ solo exhibition at the Theatre de l’Esplanade in Draguignan, France in January 2025.

Peacock on Pink is a mixed media composition on canvas featuring a transfer collage based of the paper collage ‘Egghead or Featherhead’ from Dec 2023.
Transfer collage,  acrylic and oil paint.

The artwork is signed, varnished and delivered with a certificate of authenticity.
