Watershed Wall
The county boundary wall between Cumbria and County Durham snakes along a frozen watershed from one glacier rounded hill to the next. Aerofoil hills generate sun-shrouding clouds in the cold air that skims above. Stratospheric vapour trail’s crystal line to America scatters clear sunlight. Straw coloured tussocks of dead winter grass and patches of prickly brown heather clad the peat covered rocks beneath, from which the drystone wall is made. This is a harsh land in winter full of the promise of spring.
