Spirit of the Sahara

Spirit of the Sahara is a rather unusual, eerie painting of 3 lonely figures on an imaginary desert landscape. It is a surreal style of painting, the two wooden carved heads positioned in the fore and background seem to be imposing on the desert sand in stark contrast to the Algerian man trying to sell his wares. I interweaved some of my African material (kanga) into the dunes of the desert to bring a bit of extra colour to the scene and hopefully evoke my memories of Africa from when I travelled across the dark continent in my youth!
