The Cloud Capp’d Towers
By tim smith

The title comes from The Tempest, Act IV, Scene 1 — “Our revels now are ended.” It’s a line that reminds me how our time is brief, how everything we build and celebrate eventually fades. Yet, in that transience, there’s a strange beauty and strength.
This painting is part of my series exploring the image of a single tower or minaret rising from a destroyed city — a quiet symbol of hope, endurance, and renewal. Even when much is lost, something remains standing, holding a trace of what was.
Presented in a natural aged oak flat frame, 0.5 cm wide, with clean canvas edges should you wish to display it unframed, the painting comes ready to hang with supplied wire.

About the artist
Tim's work is driven by a fascination with the changing world, contemporary culture and the history of art. These are often mixed together in what he wants to be a spontaneous blend of images rich in cultural references, held together by passages of pure painting and lyrical colour in a "new representationalism"
