Ancient Besieged City
By tim smith

Ancient Besieged City comes from images seen rather than lived. I have not had to endure the bombing of an ancient city, but I’m profoundly moved by such images — fragments of survival within devastation. When a part of a city remains standing after disaster or war, it becomes more than structure: it turns into a symbol of endurance, identity, and collective memory.
These surviving forms — a tower, a wall, a trace of architecture — gather emotional weight, becoming landmarks of both loss and resilience. They remind us that even amid ruin, something persists: the will to rebuild, to remember, to hope.
Presented in a natural aged recycled oak flat frame, 0.5 cm wide, the painting comes ready to hang with supplied wire.

About the artist
Tim's work is driven by a fascination with the changing world, contemporary culture and the history of art. These are often mixed together in what he wants to be a spontaneous blend of images rich in cultural references, held together by passages of pure painting and lyrical colour in a "new representationalism"
