Waterfall

This painting marks a deliberate exploration of composition and format — a challenge set by myself to work within a landscape orientation, rather than the more intuitive portrait or square format that often guides my practice.
For me, portrait format compositions feel natural, offering a sense of vertical balance and introspection. By contrast, the horizontal landscape format opens into a broader visual and emotional space — one that demands a different kind of structure, rhythm, and movement. In approaching this painting, I sought to reconcile these impulses: the intimate and the expansive, the vertical energy of of the portrait format and the open reach of the land itself.
Though conceived as an experiment in form, the work is firmly rooted in the tradition of English Landscape painting, celebrating light and atmospheric effects, and the enduring relationship between viewer and environment.
Presented in a simple, elegant recycled aged oak batten frame, the painting is given room to breathe and supplied ready to hang. It stands as both a continuation of landscape tradition and a personal meditation on how format shapes the way we see and feel the world.

Tim's work is driven by a fascination with the changing world, contemporary culture and the history of art. These are often mixed together in what he wants to be a spontaneous blend of images rich in cultural references, held together by passages of pure painting and lyrical colour in a "new representationalism"
