Earth energy

For this painting I wanted to express the power of the force of nature within the soil and rock itself of the planet as it pushes up into the air and space above.  I decided to use some soil from the base of a rowan tree in my garden. The rowan tree represents strength and healing. I also added some crushed leaves that I had gathered from the base of a horse-chestnut tree where I had scattered my parents ashes ten years ago. I had kept them so that I could use them at sometime in a piece of art.  This also represents for me the theme of life and death - we come from earth and we return to it.
