Dutch Houses, Leyn Baan St, Galle

This typical Dutch house can be identified by its ‘steep’ or verandah and high pitched roof to protect against the tropical heat. The Dutch, as a precaution against fire replaced the traditional palm leaves for roofing with tiles, introduced by the Portuguese.
