Setting Sail

…Our boats usually were just a piece of wood. Sometimes they had the odd nail hammered in as a mast. On occasions I’d tie a piece of string to the end of particular pieces of wood I felt were worthy of saving after launch. It was the fascination with water and the fact that that piece of wood was your ship and you were the captain. In the end though it was usually thrown away, there was always another piece of wood lying about, especially if you got the chance to wander around a building site without being caught….
