The Parlour

A quiet stillness pervades the elegant white interior in this atmospheric painting. Diffusing gently through the space, filtered light allows architectural forms to emerge in the panelled room whilst revealing a place beyond the open door.
The muted palette and subtle nuances in tone and hue are inspired by the Nordic aesthetic of painter Vilhelm Hammershøi. As with his work, the absence of a figure invites the viewer to enter the world within the painting creating a sense of calm introspection. With its tonal subtlety and suggested narrative, ‘The Parlour’ is at once poetic and intriguing.
