Barges, Out of My Widow

This small gouache sketch is based on the Girl Scout song “Barges”. It is the view out of my window from the apartment in LA where I lived from 1990 to 1995 at 1331 Miller Drive. The view out over the valley represented my desire to find some new place where I would find my future. Like the voice in the song, I was longing to travel and find a new life. Since painting this, I have indeed left the US journeying to Switzerland, the UK and now settling in France where I look out of my window watching the barges on the river Saône, treasuring the people and the experiences that I have had along the way and happy that I ventured out into the world to find a place where I belong.
