Evening on the river Usk

This is near a place called the Bryn in Abergavenny. I do the occasional course for Chapple Cottage Studios and re visited this spot in the evening after the course had finished. The actual scene was quite complicated and as always one of the challenges was how to simplify it down into a watercolour. For me painting has always been about mood and not detail, so simplifying a scene has become second nature. Rather than ‘detail’, I try to include ‘details’ such as the two trees on the far bank, and the cows.
