The road from Maam Cross to Leenaun in Connemara passes through the beautiful Maam Valley and Maumturk mountains. The field enclosures climb up the hillsides to the limit of cultivation.
Artist’s notes: I saw this wonderful example of western weather whilst driving back to Westport from Carna, via Maam Cross. The sun broke through the cloud and rain and the landscape suddenly came alive. I sketched the view and finished it in the studio from memory. I think the result captures the moment.
