After Memphis 3
AFTER MEMPHIS. Collage series.
This collage is a homage to the design collective ‘Memphis Design’ founded in 1980 by Ettore Sottsass and others in Milan. The group designed post modern furniture, lighting, fabrics, carpets, ceramics, glass and metal objects. They saw themselves as a counter argument against the rigidity of modernism and minimalism. Designs featured colourful abstract decoration as well as symmetrical shapes.
I have interpreted the vibrancy, dynamism, and energy of the group into this series of collages.
Made from a combination of found and
original materials, index cards, painted textured and perforated papers, sections of original drawings, lino prints and labels with string!
Each collaged piece has its own original
character and is unique and handmade.

My 'Paperscapes' are low relief contour maps of pattern and structure in paper. Also ink drawings and prints, painting, collage and frottage.
