Silence of the winter

Cambridge is such a fairytale city! Even if I moved to Brighton, I still go back to absorb the elegance of Cambridgeshire with my sketchbook. This is mill pond, a unique location in the heart of the city. I have painted this particular view from a reference photo taken by Marta, a very talented photographer based in Cambridge. You can find her stunning photos at instagram under ‘collegesandpancakes’. Portraying the muted colours of winter is always very special to me. I’ve also flicked through the pages of my early pleinair sketches to connect with the composition. I tried to capture the silence of the winter though it turned to be a bit melancholic!
