I’ve had a long love affair with the humble hen and the not-so-humble cockerel. My mother kept rescued battery chickens when I was a child and I loved their fussy cluckiness. Cockerels with their gorgeous plumage lend themselves to the watercolour treatment, and I really enjoy trying to capture some of their fairly fragile sense of self-importance.
