I’m so lucky to live by the coast. Just a short walk, and I’m on the beach. You can imagine, it’s endless in inspiration. Nature has a way of combining complimentary colours, the blues of the sea and sky and the orange and amber glow of the sun. Studying the play of the light on the waves early evening, as the sun sets and the day ends.

The Painting
I mixed my colours from memory, aiming for a combination that would simply evoke the coast. The random shapes came out of observation on my walk.
I rarely use tape or former to create my shapes, these are created freehand. A particular type of brush, the consistency of the oil paint, and my trained hand all aid the process.

The theory and history of colour fascinates me and engulfs my work. Simultaneous contrasts help each colour sing. I use wonderful colours, either mixed by hand or the intense pigments of quality paints such as Gamblin or Michael Harding. My paintings speak to me as I create, I take my time, it takes the lead!
