St. Paul's -The Day The Snow Came

This is the fourth original painting in my London Winter Series and this piece features St. Paul’s Cathedral for the first time. I eventually settled on my familiar winter colour palette for this new, romantic, cityscape and I’m very pleased with the result. This, the fourth St. Paul’s cathedral, was completed in 1711 but I’m equally as fascinated by the previous structure which was destroyed in the Great Fire of London in 1666. Apparently it was larger than the current St. Paul’s and it must have dwarfed the medieval city. With metallic gold acrylic added to highlights, the painted image continues around the edge of the boxed canvas.
