Nat West Superhero man

I thought it might be interesting to show the development of a piece of artwork. This was a very tight deadline; from being phoned one morning the finished artwork had to be delivered by lunchtime the following day. The brief asked for two comic book cover-style images to be used in a corporate video for Nat West; one showing a man, the other a woman. The small drawing on the left is my very first sketch to get an early feel for the idea. The second image is a detailed rough which was produced after a bit more talking with the director of the video. From this the director was able to give the green light to produce the final artwork. As can be seen, the original idea of the hero-man flying over a city was changed to place him within a more 1960s ‘cosmic’ setting. The face of the man has changed considerably, from a modern, spiky look to a traditional Jack Kirby-esque hero face. The final artwork was drawn in ink and coloured on the computer which I chose to do for time constraints and which actually turned out a lot better and funkier than if I had hand painted it.
