About Julia Mee
Based in , United Kingdom. member for 9 Years
Julia Alexandra Mee is an artist and art historian specialising in the technique of buon fresco. Born in England in 1975, she began her artistic training under the guidance of her father, the painter and ceramicist Raymond Victor Mee (1945-2006). These early years in his bottega formed the foundation of her artistic skills, not only in drawing and painting, but also in sculpture, ceramics and other techniques such as engraving, as well as a profound appreciation of art history.
From the age of 11 she accompanied her father on trips to Italy where she acquired his passion for the Tuscan landscape and Renaissance art, admiring the art and architecture of Florence and Lucca and other Tuscan cities. As Julia continued her studies, attaining a diploma in Art and Design at Staffordshire University, a BA Hons degree in History of Art and Architecture and a Masters degree in History of Drawing at the University of Reading, she specialised in the technique of fresco painting.
Her studies during these years led her back to Florence where she undertook research in fresco painting for both her BA Hons degree and her Masters Degree. Subsequently, following several collective exhibitions, in 2005 she moved to Florence to continue her passion for art, enrolling at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze where she was later awarded a first with distinction in Painting (110 e lode), specialising in wall painting techniques.
She is now a practising fresco painter and art historian, with a studio at WASPS Artists Studios in Edinburgh where she works to commission, preparing fresco projects and painting frescoes in situ in private villas in Italy.
