Encaustic Painting

A one day beginner’s workshop for a maximum of two people, inclusive of all materials.
You will learn how to prime, fuse, paint melted coloured wax and how to use tools to manipulate the wax surface.
You will come away with your very own encaustic artwork on cradled board, ready to hang at home.

16th and 17th November 2012. Learn the techniques of cutting and nipping tiles and other ceramic items to create several pieces of mosaic art. This art holiday will give you the basic skills to create wall panels and mirror frames in the class and give you the courage to extend your skills once at home
Shadow Box Making

COST £7.50 - this covers a choice of a glass fronted square or rectangular box in a choice of finishes and all the materials you need to complete the box, like background papers and contents e.g.keys, watch parts, doll parts, lace, etc. *
Paints, sandpaper and adhesives will be supplied to use during the workshop.
The aim of this workshop it to show you how to alter the box finishes (if required), how to prepare and apply backgrounds (building collaged backgrounds, distressing/tinting papers etc) and how to arrange, alter and attach your chosen objects.
Please feel free to bring along memorabilia, photographs and objects that are meaningful to you that you would like to include for backgrounds and/or contents (however, as the alteration and attachment will permanently affect and alter these, it is advisable to use photocopies and duplicate prints of photographs and to use objects that you are prepared to alter, even if it is only by the application of glue…).
(*Extra boxes and contents, plus higher value vintage accessories (e.g. hat pins, lace bobbins) will also be available to purchase at extra cost; )

Wild Clock making

This weekend celebrates our love of recycling all manner of materials by creating amazing surfaces from which you will build your own individual wall clock. You will prepare the wood with a variety of paint effects, then embellish these surfaces with stitchwork, decoupage and collage, and incorporate a variety of ephemera such as buttons, ribbons and dried plant materials, all of which make a unique and useful artefact to grace your home.
£170 per person, sharing a twin-bedded or double room, £190 per person, single occupancy
Prices include B&B;accommodation on Friday night and Saturday night, a welcoming glass of wine on the Friday evening at Galvelmore House with the opportunity to meet the other participants, light lunch on Saturday and Sunday, tuition by Jan Kilpatrick of Wild Tiles / Wild Clocks and all materials.

Garden Sculpture in Mosaic

1st - 4th March 2012. A long weekend, starting on the Thursday evening, where you will be creating the sculptural forms on which you will then mosaic. You will complete two pieces; teaching you two different techniques for creating the substrate. The first garden sculpture will be one which can stand in a flower bed or over a pond; the other will be one to hang from a tree.

5th & 6th May 2012 AND 12th & 13th May 2012. A mosaic workshop focusing specifically on frost resistant outdoor mosaics, in anticipation of a glorious summer in the garden. This craft course uses such diverse materials as slate, plant pots and concrete along with stones, porcelain and glass to create stepping stones, bird baths or wall slates.
