Waterloo Sunset

This picture is taken from a view seen when walking over Waterloo Bridge on a glorious sunny evening in June. The sky was an incredible blue and I could hear a jazz band playing outside the National Theatre (the large block to the right). There was a real feel-good atmosphere about. I’m very pleased with the way this painting worked out. I had to give a lot of thought to the composition and scale but I think it works well. Although this may not look like a normal sunset painting, it really is at sunset; I was looking South , not West. This is the first picture I’ve painted in this format. The size gave me some problems, particularly when trying to use my puny easel!
