This drawing in charcoal is from a photo of my vagina. It marks a turning point in my practice and leads on to the Peekaboo series where I directly draw and observe my own body.
My palette is paired down and simplified to focus purely on the image. Pencil and charcoal studies are drawn initially from the images until I isolate and hone in on the image I choose to scale up.
The tension between light and dark, form and matter and the image pushing out from the boundaries of the paper is an important part of this process.
