FRANCES BLOOMFIELD - artist's statement

Living and working in Brighton and London Frances graduated in Fine Art from Ravensbourne College of Art and works as a fine artists as well as a freelance graphic designer.  She has also lectured in graphic design in London at the Sir John Cass School of Art and Design and the University of the Arts. Building a new body of work over the last few years Frances has shown in Brighton, Tunbridge Wells, Rye, Bristol and London. Inspiration for Frances Bloomfield’s work comes from an eclectic range of sources: industrial ruins, geometry and wiring diagrams, curious found objects and texts from many sources including R.D.Laing and Italo Calvino. The work explores the layered narratives of dreams and the ‘improbable’ scenarios that we unconsciously construct. These ‘Dreamboxes’ provide a glimpse of other inner or imagined realities. The depth and complexity of which offer a rich landscape for reflection and a juxtaposition of curious elements, which open a range of disparate and challenging narratives.
