Cavern III

This large scale drawing made with acrylic and chalk on paper in 2014 developed from the Sex My Brain series. Drawing from the myths that surround particular found objects – ie milkweed, willow, orchid plants etc which are placed together in various still life arrangements from which photos, drawings and paintings evolve. Imagined stories are made up from placing the objects together, using the classical myths that represent them. I am interested in how certain objects look like other things and how patterns, surfaces and matter that grow in nature are echoed in parts of the human body itself. I have composed various objects together, initially as a photo, then drawing studies are made before scaling up. My interest is in how the crevices of the broken walnuts, the torn and ripped ginger intertwined with human hair and the seeds of dried milkweed take on another meaning and content of sexually charged human forms.
