Memory is the colour of ash - Allegorical memory box 1

By Melissa Budasz

Memory is the colour of ash - Allegorical memory box 1

Finding dead matter to make still life arrangements for drawing, photography and assemblages in memory boxes form the basis of this series. How can I re-tell old Greek classical myths that have relevance today as they did thousands of years ago? Fantastical and violent stories exist for some of these objects and I am interested in the juxtaposition they have when placed together. The objects have an inherent beauty and I am intrigued at how stories that can be re-created, re-defining mythical tales. There is a sense of possession and loss within the frame that is displayed as an energy and life-force that once existed.
