Tower Houses, Khevsureti, Georgia

The Svanetians inhabit the wild and inaccessible mountains of the South Caucasus, a region that throughout history has been overrun by maurading armies and criminals. They have retained many of their old traditions, including, until recently at any rate, blood revenge. The picturesque defensive towers date from the 9th to 12th centuries. Although often in a state of poor repair, some villages have been designated World Heritage Sites and are being slowly restored.

This picture is available as a professionally photographed, high quality Giclee print in a limited edition of 20.
