Sicily Leopards

These Leopards are inspired by the mosaic in the Palertine Chapel in Palermo, Sicily.
I run a mosaic workshop in Céfalu which is a very pretty town on that Italian island.
They are by no means a copy of the Byzantine original, but are very much inspired by their spirit.
I had just bought my glass fusion kiln when I made this – so the hanging figs, made in tear shaped droplets, are among my first successes at fusing large shapes.
The Leopard’s spots and the fruit on the tress are also little fused gems hand made by me!
