About Linda Styles
Based in Cornwall, United Kingdom. member for 7 Years
I am a London born but Cornwall based artist that exhibits widely around the UK and beyond, mainly known for gestural ceramic practice but recently returned to my first love of painting. I came to clay relatively late having led a ‘colourful’ life, making my debut appearances as an undergraduate at the Tate Gallery in St. Ives (1994), moving onto Ceramic Contempories 2, at the V&A Museum and ‘Setting Out’ at CPA London (1995). I have work held in private and public collections, one of which in the Gregg Museum of Folk Art, North Carolina, USA (2007). Sir Terance Conran commissioned Styles & Ward, whilst still undergraduates, to design and make a range of breakfast tableware which was sold at Michelin House in London (1995). Against the many odds, I graduated with a 1st, going on to maintain and combine my studio practice with an intense academic profile for well over a decade of horribly driven but strangely enjoyable frenzy, during which time I was a visiting lecturer in Contemporary Crafts, H.E. Course manager, curator and researcher at the Combined University of Cornwall. I have also directed Arts Council, Heritage Lottery and EU funded public art projects, the focus being on inclusion and celebration of difference. Since 2009 I am, more than ever before, utterly uncompromising in my devotion to night and day creative practice.
