Printmaking courses specialising in etching
The courses provide opportunities for beginners to discover etching, lino cut, monoprint, collagraph, and various other related techniques, and for the more advanced to develop, by experimenting and exploring various elements of printmaking. Rather than formal instruction, the emphasis is on the exchange of ideas and feedback generated by informal discussion.
I guide beginners through some of the basic traditional etching processes, e.g. hard ground, soft ground, aquatint, open bite and sugar lift. The more advanced may arrive with a specific project or idea to work with. Based on initial discussions, each student is encouraged at their own pace and within their own context.
General Course in Oil Painting
This is a general oil painting course of larger scope than the Oil Painting for Beginners Course and is intended to provide a wider experience of the possibilities of oil painting. The course provides one-to-one lessons in all of the key foundations, all three of the main methods (alla prima, layered and impasto) and several of the common subjects (including portraiture).
By the end of this course you will have made at least 17 oil paintings.
Oil Painting for Beginners
The beginners course is a series of one-to-one lessons giving the essential knowledge and techniques that absolute beginners need to start making their own oil paintings. This is a precise introduction that will serve as an excellent base from which to begin practicing at home and then for further courses or tailored tuition.
By the end of the course you will have made at least 6 oil paintings.
Experiemental Portraits and Landscapes
The course is an ongoing exploration into Experimental Landscapes and Portraits using a variety of exciting mark-making techniques, including mono-printing, mixed-media and expressive ink drawing. The emphasis is on playful experimentation and unexpected outcomes. Each student is introduced to a variety of techniques and encouraged to develop their individual creative style. Some students use the course short term, as a means to refresh ideas. Others have been coming for years and use the space and time to develop their skills further, create their own visual language and produce a wide range of exciting pieces. The possibilities are endless and the results are very exciting indeed.

A picture is worth a thousand words
The adage “A picture is worth a thousand words” refers to the idea that a complex idea can be conveyed with just a single still image. It also aptly characterizes one of the main goals of visualization, namely making it possible to absorb large amounts of data quickly.
The questions is what words are we painting!!
