…I can look back and remember when my mam did the washing it was days when it was just accepted that was what mams did. I think now what a hard boring life it must have been. The humdrum of washing, cleaning, ironing, shopping etc. I never knew if my mam ever had any time for herself. I didn’t know any difference and how could I, I was too young to understand. I can still see her stretching up to peg the clothes, then bending down to do the next one, while methodically moving along the line. That’s a long time ago. Times change and I help my wife with the washing now….
