Artists Description
This painting was inspired by numerous blocked-up windows often seen in cities with Georgian buildings such as Bath, Bristol and London.
Initiated by the ‘Light Tax’ during William III’s reign, from the 1690’s - 1824, it was one of the earliest permanent indications of a nationwide individual attempt at tax avoidance.
This physical barrier resonates as a visual impediment which I associate with writers’ or artists’ block.
