This tutorial shows you how to make a simple figure of 8 chain that is ideal for using up all those little off cuts of 18 and 20 gauge wire. You can use round, half round or square wire, or a mixture to create a pattern in your chain.
The links can be used on their own, as an alternative to jump rings as they are very strong, or connected together to form a chain
This chain was born out of necessity, when one day having run out of pre-made chain and running low on wire, I turned to my scrap wire pile and came up with this. I am sure however that I am not the first to use this design.
Material List:
18 and/or 20 gauge wire
3” of wire will give you approx. 1” of chain
Clasp of your choice (optional)
Tool List:
Chain nose pliers
Round nose pliers
Wire cutters
Marker pen
Ruler/tape measure
Nylon jaw pliers (optional – for straightening the wire)
This is a free tutorial, if you would like a copy just send me a message and I will e-mail it to you.
Customer Feedback:
I love this!!! Simple and very cool to use up the scrap pieces.
