Again, I abandoned bright colours just as Venice does, when it rains, to depict the darkness and the depressive nature of this type of day in Venice.  Here a poor, sodden gondolier battles to get to the Island of Lido with his human cargo, also saturated and unable to find shelter from the sudden rainfall.  I used fine textured acrylics paints and then my special textured brush with dry, grey paint to add the rain at the end.  I feel wet looking at the painting, remembering how it was nearly impossible to get dried in Venice after getting soaked to the skin with the sudden downpours.
