ICE
Velocities, lethal tiny collisions
Cold air remains.
Chilled, more sluggish
It cannnot replace the heat.
Synthesis,
Independent life slow growing,
A handful to be seen
Need protection.
Testifying the snowfields
So adapted
Bodies of dead,
Frigid
Huddle small,
Packed tightly
One or two roothold.
A real risk, the coldest nights.
In the world, nearly all
combine to understand why.
A sphere will hold its warmth
Lost by radiation.
Glaciers at the equator
Striking the spinning earth
Dark for weeks on end.
Down through the ice fields
Cold water,
Power of flight
Isolated rock stacks
Came up from the south.
Inconceivable privation
Decades slowly melt,
Stretches a desolate waste
Abandoned,
Outlined with rim of cold blue ice.
Un-nibbled leaves survive
And changed colour
Throughout the 24 hours of each day
Over the whitening land.
