I’m a big fan of Walt Disney animation – not the overtly commercial films that are being literally CHURNED out now – but the more imaginative, artistic ones of my childhood. ‘Lady and the Tramp’ was my Mother’s favorite film and I too am very fond of it. This cat is not meant to be Si or indeed Am from that film, but certainly owes something to their sleek menace.
The Regency striped wallpaper behind is a device I use a lot – I love the way that it immediately stamps a verticality, against which I can strike a contrasting horizontal figure.
Although Regency is Eighteenth Century, by making the colours so vivid (I LOVE that citric green by the way) the end result is more reminiscent of the 1950’s in style, which was what I after in order to give that nod to ‘Lady and the Tramp’.
