A combination of acrylics and collage.
This painting is based on a wonderful tree root that I discovered on the riverbank in Armathwaite in the Eden Valley, Cumbria. Richly encrusted with mosses and with deep hollows holding beautiful heaps of autumn leaves the roots crawled across the ground like some kind of octopus.
The following year when I returned all the mosses and leaves had been washed away by the huge floods that engulfed Carlisle and the roots remained looking like the bare bones of a skeleton.
