in painting drawings

The main focus of my work is flowers, in particular flowers that are dying.Flowers take on a whole new persona when they begin to wilt and die. The
intensity of colour becomes subdued and the detail in the flowers become mesmerising. I try to capture these qualities in my paintings. I use bold backgrounds in my work with the purpose to push the flowers into the foreground. Sections of my paintings are left as raw canvas; this technique gives my work the sense of depth and light.
One of the key elements in my work is the horizontal axis that is created by canvas being stretched over three quarters of the hardboard frame; this creates a solid anchor for the flowers.
